Chalk Walking. September 18, 2012

Apparently ” chalk walks” are like a real thing. I couldn’t find anything about the origin in my limited research, but a quick Google search for chalk walks pulls up page after page of similar events around the country. I never knew.

Anyways, my town had it’s very first chalk walk this past weekend. Local artists could register for (i believe there may have been a small fee) & participate in the downtown event. The public could wander around downtown to see the works in progress & vote fir their favorite. There was an awards ceremony Saturday evening. Awards were given in several categories including fan favorite, best rendering of a famous piece of art, best tribute to our time etc.
I went down Saturday afternoon but many of the larger or more detailed pieces were not finished so i went down Sunday morning, grabbed some coffee & took a stroll to see the finished works.

Here are some of my favorites~

The photo does not do the awesomeness if this any kind of justice…. you could only are what this was when standing at his feet. From the side it was just a bunch of random blobs. Seriously cool stuff.

Some of them had been a little trampled by Saturday night bar goers before i got pictures on Sunday morning but they still held up pretty well. The rain came late last night & like a friend said, the ” fleeting medium” made them all the more beautiful & precious to enjoy.

*sorry for the typos etc. I am blogging from my phone and the editing part of this app is not working well :/
